And Again With The Holiday Gifts......

I was talking with a good friend last night lamenting the economy and how its hitting our Christmas's this year. We touched on the fact that we both posses an alarming amount of craft supplies but haven't really figured out something to make for the kids this year. I started looking around the web and found a few ideas.....

• I love how my mind wanders when looking at this purse.....it could be such a great toy! And what kind of felt or knitted creatures live inside?? Im intrigued and am anxious to explore this more.

• How fun would this kite be to make?!!! Its a perfect working with a man project too! Imagine all the cool paper and magazine pictures I could use for this.....

• And a fave for my girls has always been washcloth puppets. This pattern is fantastic and simple and the possibilities are absolutely endless!

• Im also a huge fan of the Felt Food. I made my littlest a birthday cake for her birthday last year and its been a huge huge hit. Just don't make the mistake I made and give yourself plenty of time for a big project like that. A few great free patterns online are

Now to just decide what to make first.......

Today while tackling the ominous pile of laundry, vacuuming, mopping, and trying to pick up toys I am daydreaming about making about 20 of these.
Iv got the fabric but nowhere near the time.
So I tacked up some prints from my darkroom to try and appease myself.

Its not really working tho.

Some people are impossible to please.

You never know......

It all began when we ripped into the basement ceiling. We were adding extra insulation to what would become Elliot's nursery, then husband's seldom used office, and now my work room. Under the popcorn ceiling that was installed at one point by someone who I can only guess was insane, was a big surprise.
Our house was one of the many that were built during WWII to accommodate the many many families that relocated to our area to build ships during the war. It was a time of "waste not, want not" even when insulating houses it seemed. So when we got the ceiling down we discovered that our house is insulated with old newspaper forms from WWII.


I couldn't just throw them out! They were wonderful. So I have saved them. One ended up framed on my Mother's dinning room wall. But the rest just sat in my laundry room, and in time began to blend in with the wall. Then the other day my friend noticed them and asked what I was going to do with them.....and it began.
We tried to print onto fabric with a few methods involving fabric paint with no luck. Then we tried a sort of fabric crayon rubbing and this was the result.
There is still experimenting to be done on this project, but Im pretty excited about what I got so far. I know these will be sewn into something soon because I like them so much. Probably a simple market bag. I love these articles, and adds. I can't wait to experiment more with this.
